The trail starts at Chli Sterne after a cable car and chairlift ride, and from there it continues along 7 peaks, up and down, until it reaches Holzegg in the Grosser Mythen area. Hoch-Ybrig and Mythen regions are two popular hiking and skiing areas in Central Switzerland and offer many options for outdoor leisure and fun. They are located in Canton Schwyz, and both areas have many hiking trails, ranging from easy to difficult. Among the many trails in the area, one of the best known and most popular is certainly the 7-corner trail – Ybriger 7-Egg-Weg – famous because it is easy to walk but at the same time extremely scenic. The trail starts at Chli Sterne in Hoch-Ybrig after a cable car and chairlift ride and from there continues along 7 peaks, up and down, until it reaches Holzegg near Grosser Mythen. For those with more time and energy, it is possible to continue hiking from Holzegg to the Mostelberg-Sattel cable car station – in the Hochstuckli region – where there is the famous “Raiffeisen Skywalk” suspension bridge and an adventure park for kids. In this article, we tell you about our route from the top of Chli Sterne to Holzegg and give you some useful tips!
Hike overview & map
The walking route we propose is a linear route that starts from the Chli Sterne chairlift station and following seven peaks in central Switzerland and passing through forests, valleys, heaths and marshy areas reaches Holzegg, where you can take the cable car back to the valley, in Brunni, and then take the bus to Einsiedeln. To the official route, we have added a few kilometers downhill to Brunni, this way we have avoided taking the cable car from Holzegg to get back to the valley. The total proposed route is then 13 kilometers, which can be covered in about four hours at a relaxed pace. It is an easy route, mostly flat or with slight inclines to Holzegg and with a downhill section to Brunni.
On the way you will enjoy beautiful views of the mountains in the area, Lake Lucerne and Lakes Zug and Zurich. You will also find several dining options at mountain restaurants and several picnic areas with grills for a break.

Hiking route
From Chli Sterne to Ibergeregg
Our hike starts from the upper station of the Chli Sterne chairlift. The day is sunny and the surrounding landscape is bright green, typical of the Swiss mountains in summer. Just outside the chairlift, we stop for a few minutes to admire the view, put on sunscreen and are then ready for our hike! From Chli Sterne we continue on foot to Spirstock, which is about 3 km away. From here there is a wonderful view of the Forstberg and Druesberg, the Muota Valley, Stoos and Lake Zurich. 400 meters further on we encounter the picturesque Laucheren-Chappeli. This little mountain chapel is lovely, but even more beautiful is the view around it.
From this point the trail continues on a slow descent passing through Windegg and crossing Sternenegg, and finally reaching the Ibergeregg mountain pass, at about 1400 meters altitude. The area around the pass is a valuable nature reserve, characterized by heathlands and marshy areas. On the Ibergeregg you will find the mountain Hotel-Restaurant with terrace Passhöhe, where you can stop for lunch or a snack.

From Ibergeregg to Brunni
After lunch, we continue on our way to the final destination of our hike, Brunni. From Ibergeregg, the trail proceeds slightly uphill on a dirt road until we reach the Zwäcken mountain farm. This mountain farm and restaurant is a must-stop along the route. During the Summer it produces and sells yogurt, müsli and fresh cheese. So we suggest you take something from the fridge located in front of the restaurant and bring it home with you! From the Zwäcken mountain farm, the trail first reaches Stäglerenegg and after another kilometer enters a dense forest for about 500 meters. At the end of the forest the path becomes wider, as does the panoramic view that overlooks the entire Alpthal region. Here we also encounter the small chapel dedicated to Brother Klaus (do you remember? We have already talked about him here), really lovely! The Holzegg restaurant is really just a stone’s throw away now, as is the trail up to the summit of Grosser Mythen, the symbol of Canton Schwyz. We will tell you about this trail perhaps in the future. For now be satisfied with knowing that it is certainly a fascinating trail, but definitely challenging and requires extreme caution, preparation and proper equipment. From the Restaurant Holzegg, the cable car departs and leads back to the valley, to Brunni. However, we decided to hike the descent. This last section of the hike is about 2 kilometers with a descent of about 300 meters. It is therefore recommended only for those with good knees! Once in Brunni, Postbus 554 takes us back to the Einsiedeln train station.
How to get there
Arriving by public transport
See the location in Google Maps. The starting point of this hike – Chli Sterne in Hoch-Ybrig – can be reached by public transport and then by cable car and chairlift. The lower station of the Weglosen cable car is located in Hoch-Ybrig and can be reached from Einsiedeln by Postbus 556. At the upper station of the cable car, you can take the chairlift to Chli Sterne, where the hike begins. Current information on the status of lift operation can be found at this link. Train and bus tickets can be purchased through the SBB website or through the SBB App and, as always, we suggest to check in advance the updated timetables and the different travel options.
Arriving by car
See the location in Google Maps. The starting point of this hike – Chli Sterne in Hoch-Ybrig – is not accessible by car but only by cable car and chairlift. Therefore, you have to park your car at the lower station of the Weglosen cable car. Here a large parking area is available, free of charge for cable car users. Once you reach the upper station of the cable car, you can take the chairlift to Chli Sterne, where the hike begins. Current information on the status of lift operation can be found at this link. Since this is a linear route that ends in Brunni, we suggest you to check in advance the public transportation options for returning to Hoch-Ybrig and getting your car back.
Tips

For the more adventurous, from Chli Sterne starts the Sternensauser, Europe’s longest zip line – as many as 2.3 kilometers in total – that will get you up to speeds of 120 kilometers per hour starting at the Sternen chairlift upper station and reaching Fuederegg and then the Sternen chairlift lower station for the ascent. The Hoch-Ybrig area offers day tickets that allow unlimited travel on all operating lifts. In addition, for the entire 2022 summer season, children up to their 16th birthday ride free on the region’s lifts (with the exception of the Sternensauser zip line).
